The Open Book Test Podcast with Alison Levey

February Highlighter Edition

• Season 1 • Episode 15

Raise your hand if a well-meaning adult has ever told you that the secret to success was simply to follow your passion.  I talk in this episode about why that's my least favorite piece of advice. It's really not all that helpful since it's decidedly not specific and often, it only serves to create additional anxiety. And if you don't believe me, I love what Liz Gilbert  (author of Eat, Pray, Love and City of Girls) has to say on the subject. In this first clip, she explains that there are two kinds of people, jackhammers & hummingbirds, and the world needs both -- so embrace your natural state! Listen to the episode to find out which one I am. She goes on to explain why she stopped being a passion bully.  She says exactly what I think many of us need to hear regularly to remember to breathe and keep moving forward. I also loved her book Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear.
